There Are People Who Think The World Revolves Around Them

There are people who don’t seem to know that the earth revolves around the sun, not around them. They don’t understand that life doesn’t just revolve around them, that their navel is not the center of the world or the people around them. That’s why they proclaim themselves very important, generating with their behavior a very strong social rejection.

As a result, they maintain self-centered behaviors and fill our ears with messages and behaviors that call out screams for attention. Screams that are so deafening that they saturate and exhaust us with ease.

Self-centeredness, the excessive cult of the “I”

Believing that you are the center of the world and feeling more important than everyone else is disastrous for the good evolution of our social relationships. We do not like anyone trying to impose their opinions, thoughts and interests : in fact, it is easy to know with reason and with good judgment that a person who does not think he is better than anyone else tries to reach a balance and guarantee the common good.

Arrogance does not care about the well-being of others, it does not know that this is as important as personal well-being. They, the self-centered people, are sure that they are special, and what’s more, that their personality is absolutely charming.

It may be that they justify themselves saying the famous phrase “I have a very strong genius” , a variant of the style “I have no faults, the two of us don’t fit” . We certainly remember many people who at some point were or are part of our lives today with these phrases.
They promote themselves and consider themselves special and infallible, superior to others. This undoubtedly has the consequence of creating problems when it comes to making friends and keeping them, as no one gets any benefit from being with people who can only think about themselves.

Self-centered people don’t really like themselves, they actually use this excessive proclamation of their self-love as a shield as a way of distorting the negative self-concept they really hide. That’s why they need to feel so flattered and admired.

I was walking with my father when he stopped at a curve and, after a little silence, he asked me:

-Do you hear anything besides birds singing?

I perked up my ears and a few seconds later I replied:

-I can hear the noise of a cart.

-That noise – said my father – is from an empty cart.

-How do you know it’s an empty wagon if we still can’t see it? – I asked my father.

-It is very easy to know when a cart is empty because of noise. The emptier the cart, the greater the noise it makes,” he replied.

I became an adult and even today when I see a person talking a lot, interrupting everyone’s conversation, being intrusive or violent, assuming things to favor oneself, being arrogant and talking badly about other people, I have the impression that I hear my father’s voice saying:

“The emptier the cart, the greater the noise it makes”

Types of self-centeredness or types of empty carts

From the history of humanity and popular culture we can extract various types of people who excessively exalt themselves:

  • Stars: are those people who seek admiration and self-contemplation.
  • Nero: are those people who tend to dominate and subdue others, that is, assert their power through the maxim “never trust anyone”.
  • Cinderella: it is the victims who make their daily lives an eternal suffering, a weapon to get the attention of others.
  • Alone: he basically makes his world a place of disapproval and criticism, believing that no one but himself deserves anything.

In addition to these,  there are as many types of self-centeredness as people who sin by being self-centered. Many of us have been like this at some point in our lives, or will be one day. First of all, it is essential to be aware of and curb selfish behaviors, as they cause enormous harm to others and to ourselves.

The important thing is not to give credit and attention to the behaviors that feed the ego, because if we feed it, we will only contribute so that these people continue to consider themselves the center of the world and, as we already know, the center of the universe is not a place that is occupied by nobody.
