goals in old age

A person has different goals and objectives throughout his life. These goals change when a person’s skills, abilities, and interests change. In old age there are constant losses. An elderly person must constantly adapt and modify their goals accordingly, as only in this way is it possible to have a successful aging.

In old age awareness of time as a limited resource increases. This knowledge will modify a person’s actions. Knowing that there is a limited amount of time allows you to reframe goals to adapt to this new direction.

This makes, in many cases, the goals in old age to be different from the goals during the youth. In general, young people’s goals are focused on their education and friendships. On the contrary, goals during old age are more associated with leisure and recreation, as well as with your health.

Thus, setting personal goals in old age is extremely important. We think that the profession is one of the elements that most influence the meaning we give to our existence. Goals provide the necessary motivation to face this stage of life.

Several studies have found it healthy for older adults to regain goals they had in their youth. Old age goals can be associated with leisure or our interests in adulthood. So it can be easier to find the motivation to use energy and resources on these new goals.

The importance of optimistic people

Optimism is still a positive thing in old age. People who are able to preserve and take care of this characteristic act as an anchor, supporting us in difficult times. For the elderly, these people can represent an additional motivation and the perfect travel companions to reach the goals, as in ‘Up – High Adventures’.

Perhaps age distances us from certain goals. However, there is always the possibility to adapt to new conditions or possibilities.

At 60, we are unlikely to be Olympic gymnastics champions, but what we can do is enjoy the possibilities and movement of our bodies and even compete with people our own age who share our interests. In any case, we can always take on a new goal. This goal is none other than to improve ourselves and overcome our fears. As we see in ‘Up – High Adventures’, age is not an issue.
